Introduction

Algebra 1.5 enables students to learn concepts of algebra at a pace which allows more in-depth understanding than normally found in a traditional setting.  Students will use various learning methods throughout the year.  You will work alone, with partners, and in groups.  You will have many opportunities to demonstrate your mastery of the subject matter.

Homework Philosophy

Although math can be fun, it also requires hard work.  Homework is the method through which most of your learning will take place.  In doing the homework, you will develop proficiency in the skills necessary to be successful in math.  Only by working through assignments will you be able to learn all that is expected, thereby preparing yourself for tests.  Some assignments will be longer than others but all will have the same point value in determining grades.  Do your homework!

Expectations

You will be expected to show respect for everyone in the classroom each day.  Some ways to demonstrate this are:

bullet

Follow school rules.

bullet

Be in your seat, ready to begin class, when the bell rings.

bullet

Have all materials each day, including your text, notebook, homework, pencils, pen, paper for assignments, and any other materials needed on a particular day.

Grading

Grades will be determined by your performance on homework, quizzes, tests, and projects according to the following plan:

Homework................................. 30%

Quizzes...................................... 20%

Tests.......................................... 50%

Please remember that even though homework counts for only 25% of your grade, only by understanding the homework will you be able to perform well on the assessments.

Materials

You must bring the following items to class each day:

bullet

Notebook (or notebook section) dedicated to math notes

bullet

Textbook

bullet

Paper for assignments

bullet

Graph paper

bullet

Pencils

bullet

Pen

bullet

Scientific calculator
